Spirituality is important for so many reasons. For starters, it gives one a direction in life and motivating one to carry on. Spirituality also provides a person serenity from within, which in turn contributes to an overall feeling of good health and happiness. Spirituality also inculcates in us a deep sense of appreciation and confidence in a Power greater than ourselves who can help us in time of trials and low spots ahead.

Spiritual growth in the Christian context is becoming more Christ-like. This is a tall order for anyone. Instead, it is a life-long commitment. Spiritual maturity has a lot of benefits. For one, it makes you more accepting of the things you cannot control. Likewise, it grants you wisdom on things you can control. Also, people who are spiritually mature are more patient. Furthermore, spiritual growth fills a person with bliss and a sense of fulfillment.

Spiritual development is among the main goals of the New Direction Community Church or NDCC. NDCC provides people regardless of ethnic or racial background and social standing a nurturing and friendly church environment. They have a church in Vancouver, Washington and another church in Portland, Oregon. Their mission is to win souls for Jesus through unconditional love. The NDCC believes that through the word of God, they can build people who are of Christ-like maturity and fill them with the Holy Spirit to become Christ's ministers in their respective homes, workplace, and to the rest of the world.

The NDCC promotes positive change in the community through a number of advocacies. They have a "Feeding Jesus" program where they distribute "tithed" clothing, personal necessities, as well as breakfast and lunch packs to the homeless and less fortunate members of the community. It is part of the congregation's plans to put up educational facilities and recreation centers for the youth.

The initial step for one to be part of the NDCC congregation is to participate in its Spiritual growth courses which are provided not only in its church in Vancouver, Washington but also in its church in Portland, Oregon. These encounters are made to provide its attendees a "compass" which helps them orient themselves to Jesus Christ.
