Safety vests are bright yellow/green or orange vests that may or may not have reflective tape on them. They are used to increase the visibility of the wearer to protect them in various situations. They are inexpensive but are highly effective. When looking for low cost safety vests, it is good to know what the requirements are and choose accordingly.

Visibility

Safety vests are either yellow/green or orange and sometimes red but are always bright. They may have stripes of reflective tape down the front and back. The goal of the bright colors and reflective tape is to make the wearer highly visible day or night.

Those who work on the side of the road where there is traffic can wear them to make themselves more visible and prevent an accident. As the visibility gets worse and traffic increases, there should be more reflective tape on the vests. Construction workers and hunters also wear the low cost safety vests for their protection. Average citizens such as motorcyclists and cyclists are increasingly using them as well.

Classes

There are three different classes of vests available. Class one is used in low risk situations with good lighting. They have minimal amounts of reflective tape. The second class is used in situations with traffic present and where there is poor visibility. They are more visible and have more reflective tape. The third and best class is used in high traffic situations with high speeds and where there is adverse weather. The third class has the highest amount of reflective surface. It is important that the right vest is picked for the job.

Comfort

When considering a vest, it is important to choose one that is comfortable. In hot, physical work environments, this means having a light vest that can breath. Alternately, in a wet work environment, this means having a waterproof vest. One option for hot climates is a bib type vest that allows more airflow. It makes sense to choose the vest that will contribute to the comfort of those working.

Printing

Vests can have a printed message. This message may be a business logo, a safety message or the position of the person wearing the vest. When printed on the back of the vest in bold print, these messages stand out nearly as well as the vest itself. Using a message to identify the wearer working in a public area will avoid confusion to their role there.

Even Useful On Children

To protect a child, in some situations, it makes sense to have them wear a reflective safety vest. The vest will protect a child by making them more visible when biking or when going into the forest for trips. There are some situations where a child may actually be saved because they were wearing a safety vest. Halloween is also a time to consider putting a safety vest on a child.
