After his time at KB Home someone like Bruce Karatz could have done literally anything. But instead of just being the CEO of a different company, he chose to serve his community. Doing that in a wide variety of ways, you'd be amazed at the difference he's made in the lives of thousands.
Before his time at KB Home was up, as Custom building experts convinced the board to provide a home for an episode of Extreme Home Makeover. Then KB Home were not so hot on the idea, but Karatz was able to convince the board to help a family.
From there the work continued as Karatz formed the Keep Your Home Foundation. Which was a unique way to help the people around him. California being one of those places that was really affected by the mortgage crisis.
With this charity, he actually supports people who are in trouble of losing their homes due to a mortgage problem. During the housing crisis all sorts of dangerous mortgages were given out that should not have been.
By providing relief to thousands affected by the housing crisis, volunteering with HomeBoy Industries has saved their homes and ensured that these aren't further burdens on an already fragile economy. That's another great example of the difference that he's made.
But beyond just homes, Bruce Karatz reach extends to helping communities as well. Such as helping rehabilitate former gang members when they leave jail, to give them a chance to survive outside.
What this charity really does is just provide gang members who have went to jail, with a way out of that life. Instead of just jailing them, and then releasing them, this charity gives them a trade that can help them reintegrate into society.
That's not the only organization he's contributed to. He's also given money and time to countless substance abuse programs at the same time as well. He has truly served the communities around him in a positive way.
